Relocation, Relocation, Relocation
The summer is one of the hottest times of the year for relocating. Whether you’re moving across town or across the country, there is online research you’ll likely need to do. Moving trucks, insurance, doctors, realtors, schools, where to get good pizza, and many other pressing concerns, will have you online gathering information and getting quotes.
In order to get information, many sites will require you to give out some of your own information. Usually, the first things such sites ask for are your email address and phone number. While you may give your personal info with the expectation you will receive only what you requested, more often than not you are now on their contact list in perpetuity. Worse, you may find a short time later, they have shared it with all of their business friends. Recently, we heard of someone who had to change his auto insurance. He went online and got some quotes, only to be inundated with emails from the different companies for weeks afterward.
By using an email and phone alias, you give yourself a layer of protection from all of that. You still receive the information you need to make an informed decision, but your personal email and phone don’t get slammed with unwanted messages.
It’s your phone number. It’s your email address. It’s none of their business.
